HEALING BRUSH
HEALING BRUSH
Does anyone know how to use the healing brush? Please post a tuturiol.
Re: HEALING BRUSH
It's very simple :
-First, open TVP Animation and import the file you want to modify and the "healing set source" (for exemple
-right click on "Free hand line"
-a window appears => click on "set", next to healing, and click on the zone that interesting you (the marble, in this case)
-then, you've got automatically a pen tool. So, choose lower "healing" option.
-and so, you can modify your image (the forehead in this case) like this :
I hope it was understable ^_^

Re: HEALING BRUSH
I'm used to the stamp tool in Photoshop, but the healing tool in TVP works very differently, and I'm afraid without enough explanation in the manual. So far I've figured out that much:
- I can't use the healing tool like the stamp in PS because it doesn't cover areas I'm painting, but interpolating them. In order to cover something really different from the surrounding I have to paint it with some surrounding colour first, the use the healing tool.
- There's no obvious difference in the results of healing and panto.
- No matter whether I use the airbrush or some pencil with a sharp edge, the effect is always like airbrush.
Here's my problem: I have this film scan and want to get rid of the content, leaving only the "white" background with the speckles. 1 shows the original, 2 after painting away the content, 3 after applying healing tool. As you see in the circles, I always get these interpolated "borders" instead of the defined edge I sometimes want. I played around with all settings in the shape settings panel, but to no effect. So here's my questions:
- Exactly how do healing and panto work differently?
- What's the effect of the three bottom settings Activate, Real Time and Smoothing?
- Is there a way to show the red cross marking the origin during painting?
- Is there some combination of settings which gives me the result of the PS stamp?

Re: HEALING BRUSH
Healing brush in TVP is not equivalent to the stamp tool in PS. It is equivalent to the Healing Brush in PS.
in TVP Panto is the equivalent of the stamp tool in PS.
So Stamp tool = Panto ; Healing Brush = Healing Brush
Panto works exactly like the stamp tool does in PS: You set the source sampling point (via the shape settings panel) and paint away where you want. The panto tool DOES cover areas with sampled pixels.
The healing brush in TVP works just like it does in PS: You set the source sampling point (same panel) and paint at the destination area, and after you finish your stroke (lift you pen) it calculates and applies texture (contrast differences) only, while preserving destination color information.
The problem you presented in your post exists in PS also. If you use the healing brush on areas with a high contrast edge, it'll blend the tonal values and create the effects present in the image above. To go around that you should use smaller brush diameter when applying healing.
the "Activate, Real Time and Smoothing" option in the settings panel apply to stroke drawing smoothing and have nothing to do with panto/healing.
"Is there a way to show the red cross marking the origin during painting?"
- nope. But since it would be useful you should post this in feature requests.

Re: HEALING BRUSH
Thx, this helps. My PS version doesn't have healing ...
But the panto thing still doesn't work as expected. To set the origin, I click the "set" button, then position the yellow crosshair and click, right? Doesn't work here, only works with the Healing tool. The panto xy settings always show some value of 1 or 0 or -1, whereas the healing xy settings change according to where in the image I click.

Re: Panto tool
wrong, ... not just a click, but click & Drag, you need to drag the mouse while the LMB pressed, to set the offset values.slowtiger wrote:... But the panto thing still doesn't work as expected. To set the origin, I click the "set" button, then position the yellow crosshair and click, right? ...
the first click position is counted as X = Y = 0, the Origin point, the last position (after dragging and releasing the LMB) defines the X, Y offsets, calculated from the Origin point.
Re: HEALING BRUSH
OK, red line appears, but still I don't get the result I want. It seems like it mixes up the coordinates.
I'll prepare a test file later to be absolutely sure, and post the results here.

Re: HEALING BRUSH
Problem solved! As often it was a "Layer 8" problem. It just slipped my eye that for the panto tool to work, the drawing tool must be set to panto mode. Now it works as expected ...
- although I still find the whole process confusing. I expected the buttons in the shape setting panel to have an effect on the drawing mode. I will assign keystrokes to the two "set" buttons so I don't have to open that confusing panel, but that's just a personal solution. I bet other users were equally confused about how to use these two tools, since the manual isn't clear enough about the process.
Thx to all helpers.

i am what you could call a veteran TVP user but the panto tool stops me every time. for some reason i'm always at a loss on how to make it work!slowtiger wrote:Problem solved! i always find it at some point off course (and always i'm thinking... a that was the trick....)still its telling....
maybe i just keep forgetting it because i hardly use it (... but then maybe i hardly use it because its hard to use.)

Re: HEALING BRUSH
I don't find the tool hard to work with, but I do find that its interface is what keeps people away.
To start with, the fact that the Panto tool is not a tool, but a drawing mode in fact, makes it quite hidden.
And to complicate a bit more, its source-selection tool is counter-intuitively placed on a separate panel which is accessed only if you know how to toggle it.
If the Panto/Healing brushes were individuals tools with own tool-options in the tool panel, it'd be much more welcoming.
