Post by Waldek »

I have a short queastion. I have 5gb ram on my Mac, but TVPaint 8 see only 2. I am using TVPaint also on 64 bit Windows XP and there it see all 5 gb ram. I have TVPaint 8. If I buy upgrade to version 9, will it solve my problem with Mac platform and TVPaint wil see all 5 gb of ram?

TVP on MacOSX can use 4 GB ( but use only a maximum of 2GB for the memory cache )
TVP on Win32 and Win64 can use 2 GB ( or 3GB if you use the /3GB patch on your windows )

TVP on my XP 64 use all 5 gb! I see it in Preferences/Memory&Cahe. I realy feel different. So, TVP 9 can use the same RAM like TVP 8 on MAC, no more?

Same here, TVP 9 on Vista 64 lists 4G of RAM. Whether or not it can actually use it is another matter (i.e., does it actually have access to all of that RAM or is it just querying the system and that is what gets reported back?).

TVP9 *CAN'T* use 5 Gb of memory on win, because TVP9 is a 32 bit app, so it is *absolutely impossible* for it to use more than 4Gb, but winxp restrict this even more to a bit more than 3 Gb.
On MacOSX, TVP9 will use a max of 2Gb *for the cache*, and up to another 2Gb for all other memory needed (and there are a lot of temp buffers for storing intermediate images !).
Quicktime is DEAD. Get over it and move on !

It's a bug, don't use more than 1.5GB for the cache.

I'm butting in with a question too:
With 2GB RAM installed, will I see any benefit in TVP performance if I switched Win32 (x86) to Win64 OS?
