sentinel server in routed network

Post by Joeri »

Hi,

Im trying to install (windows) clients with a tvpaint network license server.
The Installer on the clients doesn't ask for a license server while installing,so the licenseserver has to be discovert bij broadcast.
Problem is we have a routed network with Vlan and broadcast domains.
Can the sentinel driver on the clients be set to look for a specific server like u can with a haspkey (nethasp.ini) ?
Google didn't give me the answer i hope to find it here.

Regards,

Joeri

Hi Joeri,

You will find attached to this post a pdf file that explain how installed the Safenet Dongle Drivers for network licenses. Please let me know if this help you. Making a network installation allow the client to search for every dongle on the network.

best regards,
Patrice

Patrice,

Thanks for your reply.

The pdf isn't anything els then a walk true of the install it doesn't help me, course its just next next finish.
On http://www.safenet-inc.com u can find newer drivers and diagnostic tools

Getting the clients to search for the license key server is whats going wrong course the server is using netbios broadcast (from the client i guess)
but our network doesn't allow that i need the client to target the license server.
What i understand now is that setting the environment variable NSP_HOST and opening port 6001 UDP is what needed.
Why that doesn't work ? i don't understand.

There to many variables so ill went back to basic and installed the software on the server (that works ok)
Then i disabled the firewall on server and client that didn't work.
Next ill will install a workstation in the same vlan as the server (not as easy as it looks course im not allowed to do that)
I hope to comfrom the server working correct its a virtual w2k3 on ESX using a hardware USB dongle server so it could have some issues.
Using VM and USB server works fine for other license servers so its not a new concept.

Also i wil ask the network guys to set IP helper, thats not what we want but if it works thats the way to go i guess.

Ill post the results later.

Hi Joeri,

Please keep us informed of the problems you may encounter regarding your Network.
We use to be more reactive, but unfortunalety our two PC developpers Hervé and Mike are actually on vacation.

You will probably receive more help once Mike will be back (around the 6th august).
We use to have several solutions that allow a school to use the software on its network.

As I use to say, every school is different, and we have to adapt ourselves to its specificities. :-)

Regards,
Fabrice.

Fabrice thx for your reply.

Yes every school is different ;) i know.

The network guys did some testing and we think we have a solution to the problem only its not sure what the impact wil be, that under investigation.
We use a cisco routed network its seems that ip helper doesn't forward all traffic and you have to add 2 more udp protocols or ports ( im not sure if it was port or protocol).
The 2 sentinal licensens servers we have even use different udp ports/protocols.
When i get more details ill post them.

Also the nsp_host option doesn't seem to work with tvpaint.

This is how it all was explained to me.
