Opacity Layer keyframe

Post by MelMo »

Goodmorning TVPaint crew! :D

I'm trying to keyframe the layer opacity with the keyframer. When testing I set the opacity to 0%, but when applying the FXstacks, the image in my layer does not drop to 0% on the keyframe, it drops to 20% at best. I'm assuming (and would like) 0% to make my image completely disapear. What am I missing?
Secondly I would like the keyframes to jump from one number to the other. Say there's a keyframe on frame 1 of 0% and frame 10 has 20%. Now it's moving in a linear way, so in-between frames go from 0% to 20%. I'd like them be at 0% from frame 1-9 and jump to 20% at frame 10.

Simply actions I know, but still I can't seem to figure them out.
Thanks in advance for your time and effort and have a wonderful sunny day!
Best wishes,

Mel

The first issue could have many causes, maybe if you give us a screenshot of your interface and fxstack we can see what is causing this.

Issue two:
to make your fx be stepped you can simply achieve this by setting two keyframes next to each other for each frame where you need to step up.
so in your example:
set a key on frame 9 with value 0% and directly next to it a key on frame 10 with value 10%
alternativly you can also make the progressprofile graph be stepped but that is a bit more finnicky
and less flexible if you need to change some parameters later

Thank you Peter for looking into this and your quick response. For the second issue, that's clear, I was fiddling around with profile graph indeed, but couldn't find the right behavior. The manual setup is totally clear.
For th efirst issue I made screenshots. The first image is 0% opacity in the FXStack, the second is 100% before applied (the blob is greenish from the preview). The third image is 0% after applying the FXstack, the fourth image is 100% after applying. You see that the third image, 0%after appling the FX, is is only slightly more light then 100%, while I'm looking for a totally vanished image.
Thanks for looking into this!

I think your problem lies in your choice of source and on what layer you are applying the FX
if you apply the fx on the layer itself, then the keyframer will add a 0% on top of the old layer which results in just having the old layer
and at 100% it will double on top of the old layer
So try apply it on a empty layer and instead of "current layer" use "selected layer"

btw. you can switch off the green preview in the position tab untick "show source spectrum"

It you just want to apply a fade on the current layer, better use the Fade FX instead of the keyframer. (Transition>Fade FX)

Hi Peter, a totally new dimension opened up to me! So many new possibilities with just this function of applying FX to a new layer, thanks. It worked yes. Learning more and everyday.
Thanks for the quick and clear response!
Have a great day! Mel
