TVPaint Animation 12.0.2 is available!

Post by Thierry »

Hello there!

TVPaint Animation 12.0.2 is here, and once again, this version is a bugfix update.
We have finally fixed the random crashes that were happening on macOS on the new M1/M2/M3 Macs. Given the importance of that issue, we have also released a new update for TVPaint 11: v11.7.4, that only contains that fix.
Several crashes and weird positions of certain panels have also be fixed.

Still no ETA for the Linux version: it technically works, but Codemeter crashes on Ubuntu. We are still in talks with WIBU to get this fixed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What has been fixed and/or improved in TVPaint Animation 12.0.2?

Rigging:
  • Drawing on a stretched bone should no longer cause artifacts to be displayed.
Camera:
  • Fixed a memory leak that could happen when using Camera view during playback.
Timeline:
  • Fixed a crash that could happen when undoing and redoing a layer creation.
  • Copy-pasting a folder from one clip to another should no longer cause a crash.
  • When using Video Input, selecting Append Length will now correctly be applied on the first captured image.
  • Merging two (or more) layers that are inside a folder will now put the merged layer in said folder.
  • [Standard Edition only] Layer handles are now showing once again.
Interface & Panels:
  • Fixed an issue where the popup for Background and Start Frame was misplaced or didn't appear after moving the Timeline out of the main window.
  • Fixed an issue where blending modes were not rendered during playback.
General:
  • Switching from pan tool to eraser and switch back to pan no longer cause a crash.
  • Layer folder opacity no longer always goes back to 100% when reopening a saved project.
  • Brushes from v11 and before should no longer have an empty AA setting when importing them into v12.
macOS:
  • Fixed the random crashes that were happening on ARM Macs (M1/2/3 and future Macs)
  • The `and ~ shortcuts have been removed: they can not be properly implemented because of the special way macOS handles them and they were causing other issues.

Yay, thanks a lot!
Brushes from v11 and before should no longer have an empty AA setting when importing them into v12.

I have a question regarding the patch note quoted above, and the issue discussed in this thread https://forum.tvpaint.com/viewtopic.php ... 15#p136615
The brushes themselves now show antialiasing in the menu, but there still seems to be a difference between brush strokes in v11/v12. Is that still a separate issue still being looked into?

Hello Kelan,

We have been reviewing this and found it to be related to the new antialiasing filters, like we initially thought.
I have replied to the messages in this topic to update it and share a possible workaround :)

Install question.

after downloading unzipping and installing (running the 12.0.2 DEMO.exe file)
How do i run the software?

if i click the 12.0.2 DEMO.exe it starts installing again.
for the v12.0.0 Beta i have a shortcut that points to an .exe file but i cannot find the 12.0.2-installed .exe file.

sorry for the noob question but this process always confuses me.

Hello Peter, since you hadn't PM'd me to ask for a full v12 license yet, the full v12 installer wasn't available on your account yet, nor was a full v12 license on your personal License Depot link.
They should be appearing now.

something i noticed.

a function i use daily... the Layer: Exposure: Next/Prev Loop

i assign them to "<" and ">" keys

1) i'd request this to be a default, it makes you navigate heads only
(btw.... shouldn't the name be: next/prev head or instance?)
anyway this is a vmore convenient way of skipping through an animation then using the arrow keys who only advance 1 frame at a time

2) i noticed a glitch
in which, when you are on a layer outside of the range this function does no longer jump to the next instance/exposure or head but instead advances just one frame...
if you go the other way it does work... making this behaviour a bit funky

long story short.
could you fix this function so it would always jump to the head and not only if you are on an image?

in the below example ... if i want to go the the first exposure i have to first click "<" (left) to go to the most right exposure
and then click ">" (right) to go to the first, the most left, image of the layer.
it is a bit messy

How do i "unstuck" my image library?

it is stuck on the right side of the screen hiding the panel buttons 'off screen'.
dragging the interface back to the primary monitor doesn't help.
i can double click the bar which folds or unfolds it
but the panel is unusable and i can only switch it on or off using the library icon in the menu panel.

switching off the secondary monitor, forcing my computer to go to one display...does not help.
after i switch it back on the library panel is in the same stuck position on the secondary display.

Hello Peter,
Have you tried to reset your configuration ? It could resolve this issue

You can use the shortcuts for next/prev instance which are CTRL + left/right arrows

I can't reproduce your issue. I mapped the shortcuts as youyrself and I don't have this "glitch".
As I told you above, you should maybe reset your configuration.

Thanks Léo.
reset fixed the stuck library panel.
it is a bit of a bummer having to rebuilt my config again...
i think i'll now set everything the way i want and then save that config before i start using it so i can go back to it...
as a "clean install"
...lesson learned.

the issue with
Layer: Exposure: Next/Prev Loop
Layer: Exposure: Go to Next/prev instance (using CTRL-arrow keys... good enough as a default btw!)

is not resolved by resetting, maybe you misunderstood the issue?
with both settings when you are either in front or behind the layer you only go one frame at a click... in single frame steps towards the layer.
to me that is not logic.

When on the layer you jump from head to head.
And i expect, when you are off the layer, to the left or to the right , to directly jump to the first instance (coming from the left side) or the last instance (coming from the right side)

"Go to next instance" should..... ehm  ... Go to next instance, and not just next frame.

The timeline and interface also got some major fixes. Still waiting on Linux support, but things are looking good on macOS
