Importing Image Sequence - Missing Frames
TV Paint Standard 11.5.1
Windows 10
Hi,
I'm trying to import an image sequence that I rendered from Maya as black and white line art in PNG format using a plug-in called Pencil+, which is used in some anime.
When I bring this sequence in to TV Paint, it's missing frames. As a test, I imported 15 frames, and it is missing 03, 04, and 10.
I tried just bringing in the first 3 by renaming them, and only the first two come in.
I converted them to TIFF and I get the same issue. I saved as a duplicate JPG, and it's still the same.
Maya is set to 24 fps, so that's what I set TV Paint to. I also tried 30 fps, but I'm still missing these images.
I can't imagine what is wrong with these particular images. The naming convention is the same throughout, and as mentioned, 12 of the images come in just fine.
Additionally, for just a split second upon importing the files, I can see all of them, but then the aforementioned images disappear.
I've restarted TV Paint as well. The files are 2350 x 1000. I can't think of any other information that might be useful, as 12 of the 15 images import without issue.
Is there an error log somewhere that I can check to see what may be going on?
Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!

I suppose you already checked:
- can you open the missing image files in another app?
And a guess:
- has the missing image identical content as the one before?

Re: Importing Image Sequence - Missing Frames
Well well. Thank you, kind sir.
I opened 001 - 005 in Clip Studio Paint, and I can see a very slight difference between 001 and 002, but absolutely no difference between 002, 003, and 004.
The more you know.
Is there a way to mark this thread as closed?

Really? That means that TVP does test images for identical content, something I wasn't aware of. Is that an option anywhere?

Re: Importing Image Sequence - Missing Frames
Well I noticed that when loading a sequence of identical pictures : TVPaint creates an instance and exposures when 2 or more pictures are the same.
Diving in the code, so far I see no preference or import parameter to rule that behaviour.

This is a very useful feature of TVPaint , whether it was intentional or something that "just happened" in the coding at some point. (although I expect it was intentional on the part of Hervé).
Please keep it !

The picture buffer are explicitely compared and turned into exposures, so I'd say that it was done on purpose !

Re: Importing Image Sequence - Missing Frames
I'm glad I could accidentally bring this to light!
I opened 003 and drew a small line on it and resaved it. When I brought the sequence back in to TVP, both 003 and 004 showed up. I added a mark to 010, and it showed up, as well.
Now I can stop banging my head against the wall and get to my animation! Thanks again, everyone.

You may need to activate the instance auto-break.gabriel.schroll wrote: ↑07 Mar 2022, 20:45 I'm glad I could accidentally bring this to light!
