By "2D/3D crossover work" - what is he referring to?
There is a picture of a TV Paint interface on a Cintiq. He is drawing on a picture of a Star Wars space ships...
Can anyone explain what is going on? A new TVP feature, perhaps?

I think it is referring to the work of Paul Johnson.

Paul's method of animating the spaceships is to model them as simple 3D shapes in Cinema 4D. The 3D shots are then imported into TVPaint as image sequences and Paul draws over them frame by frame . Lines, colors, shadows and highlights are added as usual in TVPaint.
